WHAT IS THE B-I-O COOPERATIVE?
The Build-It-Ourselves (B-I-O) Cooperative is a future-facing framework for communities that want to build what doesn’t yet exist—and keep ownership close to home. It emerged from a simple reality: many of the systems we need won’t be funded, built, or sustained unless communities step forward together.

B-I-O is designed as a stand-alone, community-powered platform that turns local assets—land, skills, relationships, and ideas—into engines for innovation, resilience, and shared prosperity.
HOW WE BUILD IT
Connect with community
We begin with trusted local leaders to understand what’s already in place—people, land, skills, assets, needs, and ideas. Together, we assess community priorities and technical potential to establish a clear baseline for value, impact, and opportunity—building from strengths, not assumptions.

Activate jobs, learning, and investment
We activate pathways where learning, work, and investment reinforce one another. This includes launching programs in schools and community spaces, opening routes to entrepreneurship and workforce training, and aligning ideas with the right mix of capital, incentives, and technical support. Early results and performance insight help guide phased investment—so promising efforts can grow with discipline and confidence.

Customize the co-op
The new co-op becomes a stand-alone, self-powered platform—engineered and right-sized to local resources, culture, and goals. Designed for incremental advancement, each B-I-O deployment generates its own operating revenue and reinvests locally, allowing it to grow over time and respond to change. This structure delivers innovation, good jobs, and local prosperity—without locking communities into rigid systems or external dependency. It is built by the community, for the community.
